The RE-Center
The clean-up and renovation of the Barlow School located at 132 S. 8th Street in Barlow is one of our top priorities. Kentucky West Inc. has a vision to operate the renovated school property as The RE-Center. RE-Center encompasses repair, repurpose, reuse, restore, recycle, reeducate, revitalize, etc. – all things RE.
The current plans are for Kentucky West Inc. to manage the property post clean-up of environmental hazardous materials. The list below contains future uses for this property:
-
Training – how to repair, repurpose, recycle, etc.
-
Training Center – facility for local industries to conduct training
-
Event Center – concerts, festivals, gatherings, community theater, art shows, car shows, sporting events, etc.
-
Flea Market
-
Housing – short-term rental units for trainees, travelers, etc.
-
Meetings – rooms designated for local residents and businesses to conduct gatherings/meetings.
-
Museum – Historical society, local community history, etc.
-
Greenhouse – agriculture research and training
-
Alternative energy – research, training and powering the facility
-
Audio/Video/Multimedia – recording studio, movies and movie set, etc.
The hopes are for the renovated facility to be a ‘Jewel’ for the Jackson Purchase region. After fully renovated, it will be recognized as a successful community endeavor that could be repeated in the other seven counties. The ultimate goal is to not only renovate a building but to rejuvenate and re-energize community.
A documentary will be produced to tell the story of the renovation of the school and revitalization of Barlow. The working title is “Bar High, Barlow.”
